Michael Kakos ’58, noted philanthropist and retired plastics industry executive, will address Manhattan University’s graduate Class of 2026. He will deliver the keynote at Graduate Commencement on May 15 and receive a Doctor of Science, honoris causa.
Manhattan University’s inaugural lecture in its ARCHtalk series by Anthony D. Mercando, M.D., titled “AI in Health Care: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” was held on Thursday, February 26, at Manhattan University. Dr. Mercando is a 1976 summa cum laude graduate of the University with a degree in electrical engineering. He then went on to earn his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.

Manhattan University sadly announced the passing of John “Jack” Powers ’58, a legendary New York City basketball figure who led Manhattan University (then Manhattan College) to the NCAA tournament twice and the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), defeating nationally-ranked West Virginia University and Jerry West in the 1958 NCAA Tournament. In his senior year, team captain Powers concluded his collegiate career with 1,139 points.
