2018 Year in Review
As 2018 comes to an end, we reflect on the experiences that defined the year at Manhattan College.
Our Manhattan College family has always had a special way of connecting in ways both large and small. In 2018, this shined through the friendships we built and nurtured, the faculty-student partnerships we forged, and the knowledge we gained from one another. Along the way, we celebrated student research and enjoyed valuable internship experiences.
This year also marked the beginning of several new chapters in the College's history. We broke ground on the Higgins Engineering and Science Center, opened the Lasallian Women and Gender Resource Center, named the O'Malley School of Business, and welcomed a new dean. Somehow, the singers found the time to perform at Radio City Music Hall.

The O'Malley School of Business was dedicated in September, thanks to a $25 million gift from Thomas D. O'Malley '63, to increase scholarships and grants, support innovative teaching and research, and enhance and diversify learning opportunities. Watch a video recap of the dedication ceremony.

The College appointed Donald E. Gibson, Ph.D., as dean of The O’Malley School of Business. Gibson comes to Manhattan following leadership roles at Fairfield University as vice provost for academic affairs and dean of the Dolan School of Business.

The Lasallian Women and Gender Resource Center opened this fall as an inclusive space committed to intersectional feminism, social justice, and standing in solidarity with the most vulnerable.

Students, faculty and staff helped create and dedicate a community artwork commemorating the life and legacy of St. John Baptist de La Salle, in recognition of the 300th anniversary of his death. Watch a video about his life and legacy on our campus.

During the last Saturday in April, more than 120 students spent Mission Month Day of Service cleaning up parks and playgrounds, distributing healthy food and participating in other cultural immersion activities throughout New York City.

A team of Manhattan students hit the sweet spot with an idea for turning ice cream into a year-round dessert experience. They placed in the Top 10 of the UniGame, an international business contest from the owners of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

A cohort of chemical engineering students traveled to Puerto Rico to install a water filtration system for a Lasallian grade school affected by Hurricanes Maria and Irma. Visit this page for more information about the project.

Thanks to a leadership gift from Patricia G. Higgins, Ph.D., and Cornelius J. (Neil) Higgins ’62, Ph.D., the College broke ground on a 30,000-square foot academic facility on its South Campus. The Higgins Engineering and Science Center will support the College's engineering and science programs. Read more about this significant new campus addition.

Manhattan College alumni engineers are involved in every facet of building the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the largest bridge in New York State history. Read the story.

In its inaugural year, the W.I.S.E. (Women Inspiring Successful Enterprise) professional development summer internship program awarded students the opportunity to live in New York City and work at their dream jobs. Learn more about the program, and watch a video about the 2018 participants.

Only in New York City: the Manhattan College singers performed on stage at Radio City Music Hall prior to the start of the world-famous Christmas Spectactular.

No holiday season at the College is complete without A Festival of Lessons and Carols, an annual celebration of songs and Advent reflections leading up to Christmas. This event is one of our most time-honored and favorite traditions.

More than 500 Jaspers attended the 149th Reunion Weekend at Manhattan, where they returned to the campus to reconnect with former classmates and support current students.
