High School Programs

The School of Engineering offers several programs throughout the year to introduce high school students to the field of engineering.

  • Residential Summer Engineering Program for High School Students

    While living on campus, participants will learn the fundamentals of chemical, civil, environmental computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines, and explore New York City. In addition to meeting industry professionals for career development, students will also participate in hands-on activities in the engineering labs.

    Sunday, August 2

    • Arrival & Registration: 2 p.m.
    • Orientation & Ice breaker: 3 p.m.
    • Dinner and activities: 6 p.m. onwards

    Daily activities (Monday through Friday)

    • Breakfast: 8 a.m.
    • Engineering Session I: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    • Lunch: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Engineering Session II: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Workshop/Presentation: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Dinner, NYC Exploration and tours: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Retire to rooms: 9 p.m.

    Saturday, August 8

    • Breakfast: 8 a.m.
    • Closing ceremony: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    • Depart campus: 12 p.m.

    Total cost of attendance: $2,500 (inclusive of tuition, room & board, all supplies, and events)

  • Chemical Engineering Summer Program

    The goal of this four-day Summer Program is to introduce the rising seniors and juniors of area high schools to the exciting discipline of Chemical Engineering 

    This workshop will help participants gain an appreciation for the broad-array of fields in which chemical engineers play a vital role. These include:

    • biotechnology and biochemical production, 
    • green and sustainable engineering, 
    • electronics and semiconductor materials processing, 
    • biomedicine and biomedical device manufacturing, 
    • food-engineering, 
    • renewable energy production, 
    • cosmetic, consumer goods, and pharmaceutical production etc.  

    Simply put, the chemical engineers contribute to the manufacturing of each and every product essential for improved quality of life. 

    Chemical engineering is not just Chemistry! 

    This workshop will take place this year from July 27 - 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

    The program fee is $400 for early-registration (prior to June 1) and $450 prior to the July 1 deadline. This fee includes a daily light breakfast and and tee-shirt.

    This program is run by faculty and students of the Chemical Engineering Department at Manhattan University.

    What to expect:

    During this four-day immersive program, the students will:

    • Learn about the chemical engineering profession and the wonderful opportunities it has to offer.
    • Engage in a variety of interactive hands-on activities and competitions that elucidate the critical role of chemical engineers in the above-described disciplines.
    • Learn from Manhattan University faculty and participate in Q&A sessions to gain a better understanding of the breadth and scope of chemical engineering discipline.
    • Interact with alumni and practicing chemical engineers.
    • Tour Manhattan University’s state-of-the -art laboratories and facilities.
    • Learn about college application, admission, and financial aid processes.

    Students who complete Manhattan University’s Chemical Engineering Summer Program will receive a Certificate of Completion and application fee waiver (Worth $75) if they choose to apply to Manhattan University’s Chemical Engineering B.S. program.

  • Mechanical Engineering Summer Institute

    Manhattan University's 2026 Mechanical Engineering Summer Institue program is designed for high school students who wish to learn about mechanical engineering from engineering students, faculty members, and professionals in the field. Participants will explore one of the sub-areas of mechanical engineering each week.

    The program will take place at the Manhattan University campus for six weeks, from July 6 to August 13 and will run from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm each day.

    Each module (week) will offer a variety of activities such as:

    1. Hands-on workshops and lectures presented by mechanical engineering professors.
    2. Tours of Manhattan University’s labs and facilities.
    3. Information sessions on topics such as “how is the life of a mechanical engineering student at Manhattan University”, “what you will be doing as a mechanical engineer”, and “how to apply to become a mechanical engineer”.
    4. Presentations from student clubs and student projects, giving insight into the life of a mechanical engineering student.
    5. Hands-on experiences and competitions.

    Students have the option to participate in one to six weeks of the program. Those who complete at least one week will receive a certificate of completion, which grants them a no cost application to Manhattan University’s engineering program (worth $75).

    Program Schedule: (Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 2:30 pm):

    • Week 1, July 6 - July 9, Overview of Mechanical Engineering
    • Week 2, July 13 - July 16, Aerospace
    • Week 3, July 20 - July 23, Artificial Intelligence

    • Week 5, Aug 3 - Aug 6, Biomechanics
    • Week 6, Aug 10 - Aug 13, Game Design in Mechanical Engineering

    Program Fees: Interested students can apply now and pay a $500 fee for each week of the program. The program has limited spots available and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The application deadline is May 16th. Application fee is fully refundable, minus a $50 processing fee, until May 9th. After that, it is not refundable.

  • Electrical and Computer Engineering Summer Program

    From Circuits to Artificial Intelligence: Electrical & Computer Engineering's Week

    The 2026 Electrical and Computer Engineering Summer Program is an exciting, hands-on experience designed especially for high school students curious about the world of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Throughout the week, participants will explore core ECE areas through engaging workshops, interactive labs, and real-world challenges, including:

    • Power & Renewable Energy
    • Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
    • Electronic Design
    • Cybersecurity
    • Bioengineering

    Program Details 

    • Dates: July 27–30, 2026 (competitions included)
    • Residential: No
    • Focus: Electrical and Computer Engineering
    • Eligibility: Rising 10th and 11th graders (current sophomores & juniors)
    • Cost of Attendance: $400 before May 1st; $500 before July 1st

    Professional Trips & Industry Connections 

    Students will also take part in exclusive professional trips to visit leading tech companies, innovation labs, or engineering research centers. In addition, participants will meet and network with ECE faculty, accomplished alumni, and industry professionals, gaining firsthand knowledge of emerging technologies and career pathways in the engineering world.

  • Summer Engineering Awareness Program

    Summer Engineering Awareness Program Students in group photo in front of Kelly CommonsFor 40 years, Manhattan College has introduced high school students to careers in engineering, math and science through the Summer Engineering Awareness Program.

    This 10-day intensive program for rising juniors and seniors is offered free of charge, and geared toward minority and female students in the New York City metro area. The program is directed by Walter P. Saukin, Ph.D., associate professor of civil engineering, and sponsored by the ACE Mentorship Program, the Metropolitan Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the New York Building Foundation, the General Contractors’ Association, The Richard and Barbara Whitcomb Foundation, the New York Power Authority, in addition to individual and corporate sponsors.

    What to Expect

    The program focuses on science, engineering and the college admission process. As a program participant, you can expect to:

    • Learn about chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering, and physics through hands-on experiments in the laboratories. Specific topics include:
      • Aerospace and energy
      • Computer-aided design sessions in robotics
      • Computer graphics
      • Geotechnical engineering and green building design
      • Green buildings
      • Laboratory experimental design program
      • Robotics
      • Structural project periods
      • Structural competition
      • Water filtration
    • Hear from a variety of guest speakers and lecturers
