The Division of General Arts and Sciences offers flexible, interdisciplinary programs that equip students with the skills, knowledge, and support to thrive in any field.

At Manhattan University, the Division of General Arts and Sciences provides a strong academic foundation for students at every stage of their educational journey. Grounded in the liberal arts and committed to interdisciplinary learning, the division fosters intellectual flexibility, critical thinking, and broad-based inquiry. Its programs are designed to support academic progress, personal development, and preparation for a wide range of professional fields.

The Division of General Arts and Sciences programs, offered at both the associate and bachelor’s level, reflects the division’s mission to serve diverse student needs. The programs supports students with varied academic backgrounds—those exploring multiple areas of interest, individuals returning to complete a degree, or transfer students with credits across disciplines—by offering a flexible curriculum and structured guidance. Through intentional course planning and faculty advising, students in Interdisciplinary Studies can shape an academic pathway aligned with their goals while fulfilling core university requirements.

All General Studies degree programs are registered with and approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). 

Majors and Programs

  • General Studies (A.S.)

    The Associate's of Science degree in General Studies program is for students interested in any major who require more academic preparation before beginning the bachelor’s degree, but want the benefits of the full Manhattan University campus experience.
  • Interdisciplinary Studies (B.S.)

    The Bachelor's of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies program offers a flexible, interdisciplinary pathway for students who bring diverse academic experiences or professional goals to their undergraduate journey.
  • Quality Science Minor/Certificate Program

    In a world where technology is advancing at a dizzying pace, it's never been more important to create effective, safe medicines that build patient confidence and trust. As a student in this program, you will learn the skills to ensure that medicines, dietary supplements, devices and other products are high quality and safe.
