Welcome to the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences at Manhattan University!
Whether you are exploring colleges, considering a major, or preparing to begin your academic journey, I am delighted that you are learning more about our vibrant community of scholars.
As the largest of Manhattan University's three schools, the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences brings together the liberal arts and humanities, sciences and mathematics, social sciences, education, health, and emerging interdisciplinary programs in a collaborative, student-centered environment. Our mission is to provide a transformative education grounded in our Lasallian values of faith, service, respect, and community while preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability to thrive in an ever-changing world.
When you enroll in programs offered by the Kakos School of Arts and Science you quickly realize that learning extends well beyond the classroom. Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who know their students personally and actively mentor them through research, creative works, internships, community-engaged learning, study abroad, and other experiential opportunities. Students present their work at regional and national conferences, publish alongside faculty, perform and exhibit creative works, participate in leadership experiences, and engage with the extraordinary educational and cultural resources of New York City. These experiences allow our students to apply what they learn, discover new passions, and build the confidence needed for graduate study and meaningful careers.
One of the defining characteristics of the Kakos experience is our commitment to building a true community of faculty-student scholars. Through initiatives such as our new Kakos Compass Program, students develop meaningful relationships with faculty and peers from the moment they arrive on campus. Compass fosters a strong sense of belonging while helping students navigate their academic journey, discover opportunities beyond the classroom, and become active participants in our scholarly community.
Innovation is also central to who we are. Through our new Division of Integrative Programs, we are expanding interdisciplinary programs that prepare students to solve complex challenges by drawing upon multiple fields of knowledge. These programs reflect our belief that tomorrow's leaders must be able to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate across disciplines, and approach problems with creativity and purpose.
Above all, the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences is a place where students are known, supported, challenged, and inspired. We celebrate curiosity, encourage discovery, and cultivate the intellectual courage to ask difficult questions and seek meaningful solutions. Our graduates leave not only with outstanding academic preparation but also with the confidence, compassion, and leadership skills to make lasting contributions to their professions and communities.
