Degree Program Optjons

Global Business Studies is offered as a co-major and as a minor for students in the O'Malley School of Business. Both build on a primary business major and center on the international field study experience.

Global Business Studies Co-Major (15 credits)

A second major paired with a primary business discipline such as Marketing, Management, Finance, Economics, Computer Information Systems, or Business Analytics. It combines Management of International Business and the International Field Study Seminar with an international business elective and two interdisciplinary electives drawn from across the University. Proficiency in a foreign language is strongly recommended.

Global Business Studies Minor (9 credits)

A focused option built on Management of International Business, the International Field Study Seminar, and one international business elective, ideal for students who want a global dimension to their degree with added flexibility.

The Global Immersion

Consult Abroad on a Real-World Project

The cornerstone of Global Business Studies is the International Field Study Seminar, an immersive experience customized each year to the country of travel and study. You integrate classroom learning with real clients and contexts to understand how business, culture, and policy intersect in global markets. The seminar is built around four elements: on-site visits and seminars with businesses and experts; cultural and historical exploration; reflection and analysis; and a hands-on consulting project in which you work directly with in-country clients and present your findings and recommendations to them.

Recent Immersion: In 2024, students traveled to Singapore, where one team partnered with Echeveria, a sustainable botanical company, developing strategies to grow its social media presence, access grants, and refine market segmentation, while another team analyzed sales data for Let's Go Singapore to sharpen its understanding of its client base and guide future resource decisions.
