What Set's Us Apart

The Manhattan University Difference

What Sets Us Apart

The Data Science major at Manhattan University brings together the strengths of all three schools to prepare students for a world shaped by intelligent, data-driven technologies. Students build deep mathematical and computational skill while learning to apply it across disciplines, supported by personalized instruction and close faculty mentorship in small classes.

$112,590 Median Salary

Data scientists earned a six-figure median wage in May 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with nearly 34% projected job growth through 2034.

Three Schools, One Curriculum

Coursework drawn from the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences, the O'Malley School of Business, and the School of Engineering builds genuine interdisciplinary range.

Mathematically Rigorous Core

A foundation in calculus, probability, applied statistics, and linear algebra gives graduates the depth that distinguishes data scientists from data users.

Ethics in Every Algorithm

Consistent with our Lasallian mission, students examine privacy, bias, and transparency, asking not only what intelligent systems can do but what they should.

Electives Across Four Clusters

Focused elective clusters in data mining, applied machine learning, big data technology, and data policy let students shape the degree around their goals.

Small Classes, Close Mentorship

Personalized instruction and faculty mentorship in small classes give every student the guidance to grow from first coursework through senior capstone.

The Manhattan Advantage

Why Study Data Science at Manhattan University?

At Manhattan University, data science is more than coursework in a single department. Students learn from faculty across mathematics, computer science, business, and engineering, building the rare combination of statistical depth and applied range that employers value most. The program culminates in a senior capstone project, where students apply data science and AI techniques to a real, domain-specific problem in a field such as health care, finance, environmental science, or public policy. You graduate with more than a degree: a completed project that demonstrates what you can do with data, and the judgment to use it well.

Why Study in New York City

New York City is one of the world's leading markets for data science and AI talent, home to organizations across finance, health care, technology, media, and government that compete for graduates who can turn data into decisions. Studying minutes from this ecosystem means access that few programs can match: internships with NYC employers, capstone and research projects grounded in real industry problems, and faculty networks that reach across the city's data-driven sectors. Manhattan University students graduate with the technical skills, professional connections, and practical experience needed to compete in one of the nation's most demanding analytics markets.

About

One Degree, Three Schools

The Data Science major is a true University-wide collaboration, drawing coursework and faculty from all three of Manhattan University's schools. The Kakos School of Arts and Sciences, the program's home, provides its mathematical and computational core, pairing rigorous academics with small classes and close faculty mentorship. The AACSB-accredited O'Malley School of Business, a distinction earned by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide, contributes electives in business analytics, big data, and data privacy. And the School of Engineering, the school that built New York, adds applied depth through electives in data mining, trustworthy AI, and database systems. Grounded in the Lasallian Catholic mission and located near the heart of New York City, the three schools offer a single cohesive degree.
