Uber and Lyft Safety

Before entering any rideshare vehicle, confirm that the driver and vehicle match the information shown in your app. Check the driver’s name and photo, vehicle make and model, color and license plate number before starting your trip.

Riders should only request Uber or Lyft trips through the official app. Getting into the wrong vehicle may put you at risk and prevents you from using the safety features built into the rideshare platform.

Uber Safety Features

Uber includes several safety features designed to help riders confirm their trip, share their location and receive support when needed.

  • Door-to-door service: The vehicle comes directly to the rider’s requested pickup location.
  • GPS-tracked rides: Riders can view their route and vehicle location in the app throughout the trip.
  • Cross-street pickup and drop-off: Riders may use nearby cross streets as a pickup or drop-off location for added privacy.
  • Trip sharing: Riders can share trip details, including route and estimated arrival time, with family or friends.
  • Two-way feedback: Drivers and riders can rate each other and provide feedback after a trip.
  • Customer support: Uber provides support for trip-related issues and inquiries.

Lyft Safety Tips

The Lyft app displays your driver’s name and photo, along with the vehicle’s license plate, make, model and color.

  • Before entering the vehicle, confirm that the license plate, make, model and color match the information in your app.
  • Verify the driver’s name with the name shown in the app. You may also ask the driver to confirm your name or destination.
  • At night, the Lyft Amp may help identify your ride. Check that the Amp color matches what is shown in your app.
  • If you have trouble finding your driver, text or call them through the Lyft app.
