Rodríguez, a champion of immersive language learning, inspired generations of Spanish students to broaden their horizons through study abroad. In recognition of his dedication, the University has established the Rodney Rodríguez Memorial Scholarship, a restricted fund that will support a Spanish major or minor studying in a Spanish-speaking country. The award carries forward his belief that transformative learning happens through cultural exchange and global engagement.

Similarly, the Brother Patrick Horner Memorial Scholarship celebrates the legacy of a cherished English professor known for his love of literature and his gift for helping students discover their voice. The scholarship will support English majors pursuing the discipline he treasured. Beginning as a restricted fund—with the long-term goal of becoming endowed—the award reflects Brother Horner’s commitment to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for the written word.

Together, these memorial scholarships stand as meaningful tributes to two educators who shaped the intellectual and personal journeys of countless students. As the University works with the Department of English, World Languages, and Literatures to promote and develop these initiatives, the scholarships will ensure that the mentorship, passion, and academic excellence embodied by Professors Rodríguez and Horner continue to inspire future generations.
