Misty Copeland to Begin Spring Lecture Series on February 1
The famous dancer is joined at the College virtually this spring by an Olympic gold medalist and well-known model turned activist.
The Student Engagement lecture series has long been a trademark and enjoyable perk for students, featuring well-known guest speakers across a variety of industries and disciplines.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many events have taken place virtually. However this has not stopped Student Engagement from securing exciting speakers in order to continue the series in a remote format.
Alumni, students and employees of the College are invited to the following virtual lectures:
Misty Copeland – Monday, February 1, 7:30 p.m.
The spring lecture series begins with Misty Copeland, the first African-American female Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. Students will be given the opportunity to meet Misty and learn about her trailblazing journey in the world of dance.
The event is co-hosted by Black Student Union and Jasper Dancers and co-sponsored by the Multicultural Center and Alumni Relations office.

Aly Raisman – Thursday, March 25, 7 p.m.
Meet Olympic gold medalist and gymnastics champion Aly Raisman, who competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games and served as the American team captain twice. On March 25, students, faculty, staff, and alumni will join Raisman for the evening to hear about her incredible experience in the Olympics and personal journey to becoming an advocate for sexual assault victims and women’s empowerment.
The lecture is hosted by Student Government and students studying in the Communication department. The lecture is also co-sponsored by the Athletics department, the Lasallian Women and Gender Resource Center, and Student Government.
Nyle DiMarco – Thursday, April 8, 7 p.m.
The spring lecture series will conclude with Nyle DiMarco, former winner of America’s Next Top Model. On April 8, hear from DiMarco about his personal story and the ways he has utilized his newfound platform from the show to advocate for the hearing impaired.
The lecture is hosted by Student Government and co-sponsored by Manhattan College’s office of Diversity, Equity & Title IX and Human Resources.
