The event will take place on the main campus quadrangle.

Campus quadrangleOn Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m., Manhattan College will host a shoe strike for climate justice , similar to socially distanced actions that are taking place in Europe to raise concerns about the effects of human-caused climate change. The event will take place on the main campus Quadrangle.

Manhattan College chaplain Father Thomas Franks, O.F.M., Cap., will speak at the event, along with local climate activists Jessica Haller, Alexandria Villaseñor and Chelo Hernandez.

The event is in partnership with Season of Creation, which was formed by a group of Christian leaders who have been called to strengthen their united response to the environmental crisis. The organization seeks to empower Christians to respond in the way of his or her own denomination during this time of reflection and action.

The event is also part of Climate Week NYC, the biggest climate summit taking place this year. As the focus shifts to how we rebuild after COVID-19, Climate Week NYC 2020 will explore what lessons we can learn in the pursuit of a net-zero future through just transition.
