Founded in 1906, Pi Delta Phi is the highest academic honor in the field of French and the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States. The purpose of the society is to:
- recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and Francophone literatures
- increase appreciation of the French-speaking world and their cultural contributions
- stimulate and encourage French and Francophone cultural activities
The Manhattan University chapter, Iota Pi, was established in 1983.
Eligibility
To qualify for membership, undergraduates must:
- have junior or senior class standing
- have completed five university courses in French with a grade of B or better
- be in the top 35% of the class
