About Us
Welcome to Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 560 at Manhattan University, comprised of students from 14 colleges & universities in the New York City metro area. We aim to develop qualified students into future leaders by serving as commissioned officers in the United States Air Force or United States Space Force while still enjoying the benefits of a civilian college experience.
The AFROTC program is at least a three-year program. Students can attend any of our partner schools and must be enrolled in their school full-time for their five semesters. The sixth and final semester can be part-time, or students do not have to be enrolled in school if they've completed their degree.
There are multiple options for students to complete AFROTC:
- Enter the four-year program as a college freshman
- Enter the three-year program as a college sophomore
- Enter later than your sophomore year if attending a master's program or an undergraduate program that will guarantee at least 5 full-time semesters
- Military members currently enlisted in the National Guard or Reserves can also apply and must meet the criteria above, and obtain a conditional release from their immediate commander/unit leadership before the first semester of their junior year.
Students interested in joining the program should have a 2.0 cumulative GPA, be physically fit, and be within Air Force height/weight standards. In addition, students will undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation in their first semester to ensure they meet the medical qualifications to obtain an Air Force or Space Force commission.
High school students interested in applying for the AFROTC full scholarship should follow the U.S. Air Force ROTC Homepage link at the bottom of this page. All other undergraduate AFROTC students will receive a scholarship of $9K each semester for their final two years in the program as long as they meet the associated requirements, including being less than 31 years of age in the calendar year in which they will commission. Information is current as of June 11th, 2024.
