We celebrate with joy and give thanks for the successful conclusion of the papal conclave that has chosen a worthy successor to our beloved Pope Francis. Our first American pope whose religious life has transcended borders, Pope Leo is indeed an inspiring example of unstinting commitment to the poor and vulnerable across the globe.

As a Catholic university in the Lasallian tradition founded by the patron saint of teachers, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Manhattan looks forward with grateful anticipation to Pope Leo’s prayerful leadership in challenging times. In concert with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, we shall continue to wholeheartedly pursue our mission of faith, service and social justice and in doing so, as Pope Leo emphasized in his first remarks to the world, “be a church that builds bridges.”
