Manhattan University, the 172-year-old Lasallian Catholic institution, announced that Hany Guirguis is the new Dean of its O’Malley School of Business (OMSB). Previously serving as the Interim Dean, Guirguis’ appointment is effective immediately.
A full tenured professor, Guirguis has a broad and deep background in leadership positions at the Business School. Joining Manhattan University in 2000, he became a Professor of Economics and Finance in 2010 and chaired that department from 2010 to 2018. From 2013 to 2018, he was named the Louis E. Capalbo Professor of Business and from 2019 to the present, he holds the Ambassador Charles A. Gargano Endowed Chair. He assumed the Interim Dean position in 2024.
Guirguis has published extensively on the topics of real estate finance, macroeconomics, financial modeling, and applied economics and, in addition to his tenure at Manhattan University, has teaching experience at a number of institutions, including Columbia University, Portland State University, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State University.

With rigorous training and hands-on experience in the business world, our students can work with leaders in the field, taking advantage of our New York City location. I also plan to focus on AI and machine learning; introduce new master programs that combine analytics knowledge with finance, marketing, and accounting; and enhance the learning experience for both our graduate and undergraduate students.”
Guirguis has been active in the University’s academic community serving in the University Senate, the Educational Affairs Committee, and the Council for Faculty Affairs.
He holds a Ph.D. in Macroeconomics and Econometrics from the University of Oregon, a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Investment from Baruch College, a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Oregon, a Master of Arts in Economics from American University in Cairo, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Helwan, Cairo.
