Manhattan College today announced that Mike Urmeneta, Ed. D. has become the new Director of Institutional Research. He will report to Rani Roy, Ph.D., Acting Provost.
Urmeneta will play a leadership role in the Office of Institutional Research with a focus on data strategy, management, and compliance to assist the School in meeting the objectives stated in its strategic plan and meeting standards of affiliation with regional and professional accreditors.
He comes to Manhattan College with in-depth expertise as an accomplished researcher, educator, and data scientist with over two decades of specialized experience in institutional effectiveness and student success. Urmeneta received accolades from leading professional organizations, including the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and EDUCAUSE. He previously served as the Director of Analytics at the New York Institute of Technology and is a sought-after speaker and author on AI’s practical and responsible use. In addition, he has collaborated with a diverse range of organizations, from community colleges and private universities to public, land-grant, and international institutions.

We look forward to his leadership in the generation, analysis, visualization, and dissemination of academic and administrative data for use in planning, policy formulation, and budgeting.”
Urmeneta stated that he was drawn to Manhattan College because of its commitment to the Lasallian Catholic tradition as well as the University’s mission to support a diverse student population. “I’m eager to enhance our institutional research capabilities and foster a data-informed culture that supports our Lasallian mission,” said Urmeneta. “By integrating advanced analytics into our processes, we’ll be better equipped to serve our diverse student body and make informed decisions across all university departments.”
A New York native, his educational background includes a BS in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic University (now the Tandon School of Engineering of New York University), an MS in management from NYU, and a Doctor of Education from Northeastern University. He received the Dean’s Medal for Outstanding Doctoral Work for his research.
