Kimara Patton to serve as the new Assistant General Counsel

Patton brings a diverse legal background to the new position

The Manhattan College community is pleased to welcome Kimara Patton as the new assistant general counsel. In this role, she will help ensure compliance with federal, state, and city statutes, and manage Title IX compliance, training and investigations.  

photo of Kimara Patton the new Assistant General CounselPatton has more than 20 years of legal experience, which includes serving as the Title IX Coordinator for Baruch College assuming the duty of point person for students and staff regarding Title IX issues. She also managed compliance rules and regulations for various levels of government, including finding resolution to claims of misconduct and discrimination in accordance with regulatory requirements. Patton also served as Baruch’s Deputy Chief Diversity Officer. Before joining the world of higher education in 2020, Patton held several positions, including Chief of the General Legal Services Division and then Chief Compliance Officer for the New York Liquidation Bureau as well as Queens County Assistant District Attorney.

Patton is stepping into a newly created position that will support just about every area of the College. Her initial focus will be to amend the College’s Title IX policy to reflect the recently enacted regulations and develop commensurate enforcement measures. And as Assistant General Counsel, Patton will report directly to Manhattan College’s Vice President and General Counsel, James Ryan.

Before beginning her impressive career practicing law, Patton earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and received her Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. She also has a vested interest in her community and was recently elected to the school board in her town of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Patton emphasized what matters most: family. She is a wife and mother of two kids with whom she loves to hike and travel internationally.
