Manhattan College Statement on Supreme Court Decision

The College reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive campus student body.

To the Manhattan College Community:

We respect the Supreme Court’s recent decision on affirmative action and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive campus student body. This is an issue that we have been addressing since our founding 170 years ago and the decision will not affect our policies and practices. Cupola

As a Lasallian Catholic institution, we believe that diversity is essential to our mission of educating the whole person. We are dedicated to creating a campus where all students can thrive, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background. Our commitment to a diverse student community is inherent to our educational heritage. Of our undergraduates, 32 percent are the first in their families to attend college and 40 percent are minorities and people of color. Manhattan’s recent designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution reaffirms our commitment to the College's core values and mission. Manhattan is truly reflective of the city that we serve.

We are proud of our diverse student body, and believe that it makes our campus a richer and more vibrant place to learn. There are significant challenges that lie ahead, but with the cooperation of everyone in the campus community, Manhattan will continue to be a College where all students can feel welcome, valued and respected.

Sincerely,

Milo Riverso
