2022 Year in Review
Here we revisit the most memorable moments of 2022, a year of new beginnings and innovation.

In October the College officially dedicated the newly renamed Aimee and Michael Kakos ’58 School of Science. A $15 million gift from this generous couple will increase student scholarships and grants, support innovative teaching and research, and enhance and diversify learning opportunities.

Brother Daniel Gardner, FSC, was named president of Manhattan College, effective July 1, 2022. Prior to this appointment, Brother Daniel served in both academic and administrative capacities at the College, including, most recently, as assistant director of the Center for Graduate School and Fellowship Advisement. Brother Daniel’s commitment to the wider community is evident through his service and leadership at several educational institutions.

For the seventh consecutive year, Manhattan College was ranked among the top colleges in the North by U.S. News & World Report. Manhattan ranked 16th among 175 colleges and universities in the region.

Opened in Fall 2022, this state-of-the art Veterans Success Center features three distinct spaces, including a quiet study space, a group meeting space, and a more social and collaborative space for student veterans to meet.

Manhattan College announced in November that it will be the home of the Dorothy Day Center for Study and Promotion of Social Catholicism. The new Center will be located in Kelly Commons, and an official opening will be held in early 2023. It will accommodate a collection of historical materials and archives related to Day, who is currently being considered for sainthood.

During the summer of 2022, more than 40 students participated in the Jasper Summer Research Scholars program. Their projects ranged from local environmental issues to youth voting to historical analysis.

Alixandria James ’23 is one of 58 college students nationwide – and the first Manhattan College student – to earn a 2022 Truman scholarship for graduate studies, leadership training, career counseling, and special internship and fellowship opportunities within the federal government.

In May 2022, Manhattan College was proud to graduate 730 undergraduate students and 270 students who received master’s and advanced degrees. Commencement events were held at the Meadowlands Expo Center.

For the first time in 20 years, Manhattan won the MAAC title for Men's Lacrosse in May. On the same field they won in 2002, the Jaspers defeated St. Bonaventure 8-7.

For the first time in three years, Jaspers gathered on campus once again to celebrate with classmates at the long-awaited return of Manhattan’s popular Reunion Weekend, from June 3-5, 2022. The 3-day event engaged more than 300 alumni, family and friends.
