Manhattan College to Launch New Master’s Program in Marriage and Family Therapy

School of Education and Health adds to catalog of graduate-level counseling, leadership, and education programs.

Manhattan College’s School of Education and Health will offer a 60-credit graduate-level program in marriage and family therapy (MFT), beginning in fall 2016. The program is registered by the New York State Office of Professions to offer the Master’s Degree for license eligibility in Marriage and Family Therapy. The program prepares students to work in a variety of marriage and family therapy settings, learning from experienced practitioners in the New York metropolitan area. Graduates of the program are eligible to seek initial employment towards meeting the 1,500-hour post-degree, supervised experience required for licensure. Passing a state approved licensure examination is also required.

The Manhattan College Master’s program in marriage and family therapy is highly personalized with small class sizes and close relationships between students and faculty. Students will have the ability to participate in internships in New York metropolitan and regional agencies, hospitals and community organizations. They will gain experience with diverse groups, providing services to families, individuals and couples. Students will also use innovative technology in blended classes, learn models of therapy appropriate with a diverse clientele and practice assessment and treatment in their internships.

The program is grounded in Manhattan College’s Lasallian mission to serve those in need and to work toward social justice. That vision includes studying, understanding and developing the skills for providing therapy based on a contextual, cultural and relational perspective, looking at the various ways people grow, live and function.

For more information about the program, interested students should contact Corine Fitzpatrick, Ph.D., chair of the graduate counseling, leadership and education program, at or (718) 862-7497.
