As part of Manhattan College’s annual Student Activities Lecture series, the College welcomes four engaging speakers to campus, Sept. 8-12. The lineup includes Brian Cashman, general manager for the New York Yankees; Richard Donohue Jr., Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) police officer who was wounded in pursuit of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects (and wife Kim Donohue ’04); and Luis D. Ortiz, famous realtor and co-host of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York.
The schedule of talks include:
- Monday, Sept. 8: As senior vice president and general manager for the Yankees, Brian Cashman will discuss his 28 seasons with the team. He started as a 19-year-old intern in the minor league and scouting department, and worked his way up to become the second-youngest general manager in baseball history in 1998. Throughout his career with the Yankees, he has been a part of five World Series championships.
- Wednesday, Sept. 10: Richard Donohue Jr., a member of the MBTA since 2010, along with his wife Kim Donohue ’04, will explain how he was wounded in a gun battle in pursuit of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects on April 19, 2013. After a bullet severed his femoral artery and caused severe blood loss on site, Donohue spent two months recovering in a hospital and rehabilitation center. He was recently honored with the MBTA Transit Police Department Medal of Honor for his actions.
- Friday, Sept. 12: Luis D. Ortiz will conclude the weeklong lecture series, and talk about his experience in real estate and role as co-host of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York. The show follows Ortiz as he brokers the buying and selling of luxury properties in New York City’s real estate market. Working in real estate for the last seven years, he has helped celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Sandra Lee find their dream homes.
Brian Cashman’s discussion will start at 8 p.m., and the other two lectures will begin at 7 p.m. in the Raymond W. Kelly ’63 Student Commons Great Room, followed by a question-and-answer segment. The local community is also invited to attend the weeklong lecture series, however prior registration is required by emailing John Bennett at studentactivities@manhattan.edu.
