Kappa Alpha Omicron recognizes exceptional students within the environmental studies and science majors. Since its inception in the fall of 2020, the Manhattan University KAO Nu Chapter has grown significantly. Since then, our chapter has engaged in community service oriented projects such as waste removal in local parks and trails restoration among other philanthropic activities. The chapter also participated in the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association Carbon Challenge to increase consciousness of carbon usage and reduce consumption rates. In October of 2021, members from the chapter presented findings from a student-run research project on contaminants in the Bronx River and the implications of net-zero energy buildings on their surrounding environments at the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association’s 26th Annual International Conference on the Environment. As our chapter grows, our goal is to become more engaged in service projects and further incorporate the interests of our current members and incoming inductees.
