Dr. Farrell has worked as a psychologist since 1979. He has worked for the New York City Public Schools (1979-80), for Leake and Watts Children's Home (1980-82) and for Pelham Public Schools (1982-2018). He has also worked in private practice since 1984. He has taught graduate school at College of New Rochelle (2003-09), Iona College (2007-08), and Yeshiva University (2009-12). Since 2010 he has been teaching in Manhattan's counseling department. Having graduated from Manhattan College in 1976, he now teaches in some of the very same rooms in which he was an undergraduate student 45 years ago.

In 1984, Dr. Farrell completed a two-year, post-graduate training program in cognitive-behavior therapy at the Institute for Behavior Therapy in New York.
He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists.
