Literary London introduces students to a rich selection of English literary texts spanning from the early modern period to the twenty-first century, all written in and often inspired by the city of London. The course positions the city itself as the primary classroom, inviting students to read, analyze, and discuss literature while standing in the neighborhoods, streets, and cultural spaces that shaped it. Students will explore London’s world-class museums, historic landmarks, and dynamic theatre scene, gaining a deeper understanding of how writers have responded to the city’s evolving social, political, and artistic life. Through this immersive experience, students will connect literary works to the living landscape that continues to inspire them.
