One-on-One Tutoring Online Program

The Manhattan College One-on-One Tutoring Online program provides young learners from kindergarten to 12th-grade tutoring in:

- Chess
- Daily School Support Activities and Projects (i.e. math, science, reading, ELA, writing)
- Cooking

Our tutors are college students majoring in education, business, and engineering, as well as experienced educators.

Our individualized approach provides students the dedicated attention they need to overcome problems, balance their current online class activities, and strengthen their understanding of the subject matter being learned/practiced. Our tutors work closely with students to increase their academic skills, improve their critical/strategic thinking, learn new practical skills, and/or analytical reasoning.

We offer short and focused online tutoring sessions to keep the student engaged in different specialties. From 30 minutes to 60-minute sessions, depending on your need, our sessions will help your child to become more organized, disciplined, and inspire them to be better learners.

  • Chess

    Become the Master Chess player among your peers or learn just for fun. This program will provide young scholars from 3rd to 12th grade in mastering or learning the game of chess utilizing strategic strategies and their cognitive skills.  

    Our chess instructors are experienced, players, and educators. Our individualized approach for chess provides the youth with the confidence to play chess or mastering their skill in becoming the best.

    We offer a variety of Chess sessions to keep the student engaged. From 60 minutes for one day to 300-minute sessions, depending on your need, our Chess program will help youth to become more organized and disciplined.

    Fees 

    60 minute session = $45
    120 minute session (two 60 minute sessions) = $70
    300 minute sessions (five 60 minute sessions) = $180.00

    *Sessions must be used and scheduled within 30 days.

  • Cooking

    In collaboration with Coqui the Chef Cartoon graphic of Coqui, the chef depicted as a smiling green lizard with bright blue eyes and is wearing a chef's hat.
    We offer two programs for children a) Kids Paella Virtual Cooking Class, and B) Watch and Learn Class.

    a) Kids Paella Virtual Cooking Class
    Tuition: $150

    Available dates:
    1- November 13, 2020 (last day to register October 31)
    2- December 11, 2020 (last day to register November 27)

    The last day to register is 10 business days before the session.


    Children meet with Chef Tania or one of her staff members and prepare a paella together. This activity takes 90 minutes (*an adult is required to be with the child at all times)

    Maximum students 5

    Children receive by mail a Coqui the Chef’s paella meal kit that includes:(servings for 2). We mail out the meal kit one week before the event. 

    Paella meal kit includes dinner for two; shipping is included in the tuition.

    • Smoky-Sweet Paprika from Spain (10 oz small tin)
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Spain (2 fl. Oz)
    • Classic 10-inch Paella Pan

    • Pan con Tomate Recipe, aka Spanish Bruschetta (you buy the ingredients, we make it while the paella is cooking)

    At the end of the session, the child will receive a certificate of attendance from Manhattan College and Coqui the Chef by email (in PDF).

    b) Watch and Learn Class
    Tuition: $45

    Available dates: November 12 and December 10, 2020

    Children meet with Chef Tania or one of her staff members and watch the chef prepare a paella. This activity takes 60 minutes.

  • Daily School Support Activities and Projects

    Our individualized approach provides students the dedicated attention they need to overcome problems, balance their current online class activities, and strengthen their understanding of the subject matter being learned. Our tutors work closely with students to increase their academic skills and to improve their critical/strategic thinking and analytical reasoning.

    Our tutors will help children to balance their current school workload and make sure they complete and submit all their projects on time.

    Fees 

    30 minute session = $20
    60 minute session (two 30 minute sessions or one 60 minute session) = $36
    240 minute sessions (four 60 minute sessions or eight 30 minute sessions) = $136

    How can this program help during the COVID-19 pandemic?

    The transition to online school can be difficult, so our tutors are here to ensure your child is succeeding in the new online/hybrid classroom model during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Do I have to pay for several sessions or can I only pay for one?

    It all depends on the specialty program you are registering for. Please check the specialty you are interested in. For example, if you are interested in our Daily School Support specialty, you can pay for a 30 or 60-minute session, or purchase our 240-minute package. If you feel that your child needs more hours you can purchase more minutes after registration.

    Who are the tutors?

    Our tutors are professional educations with experience working with children and college students. All of our tutors are trained to teach and tutor children online.

    I am not sure if this program is right for my child and for me. Where do I learn more about the program?

    Send us an email at infonc@manhattan.edu with your questions about the program. We will respond with a meeting option to discuss this with you.

    How do I schedule a session?

    After submitting your registration and payment, you will receive an email with detailed instructions on how you can schedule the sessions with our tutors. 

    What do the sessions consist of?

    Our tutors will work with your child focusing on their specific needs using google meet or zoom. Based on the type of specialty that you participate in, the session will be highly interactive and engaging.

    What if there are technical or connection issues during a session?

    Technology can sometimes be unreliable, if a connection issue makes a session unable to happen our tutors will work with you to reschedule for a different time or find another alternative.  We want to ensure that your child is fully benefiting from their sessions.
