Marisa Lafalgio ’15, ’16MBA To Give Student Address at Spring Commencement

Lafalgio completed Manhattan College’s dual five-year BA/MBA program in four years.

Marisa LafalgioMarisa Lafalgio ’15, ’16MBA is the Spring Commencement valedictorian and will address her fellow graduates at Manhattan College’s Spring Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 21, beginning at 3 p.m.

A first generation student and native of Garnerville, N.Y., Lafalgio received her bachelor’s degree from the College’s School of Business in three years and will receive her Master of Business Administration in professional accounting on Saturday.

"Marisa is a smart, hard working, and dependable student that has been an asset to Manhattan College for the last four years," says Aileen Lowry Farrelly '95, CPA, M.S., assistant dean and assistant professor in the School of Business. "I am so proud of everything she has done and I am confident that she will be an exemplary model of the Lasallian tradition as she moves into the workforce. I am proud to have her join our Jasper alumni family."

During her time at Manhattan College, Lafalgio has participated in the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program, assisting elderly and low income citizens with their tax preparations. She has also volunteered as a tax preparer with AARP, Inc. and performed additional volunteer service at the nearby Methodist Home and Kingsbridge Heights Community Center.

Beginning in September, Lafalgio will join Ernst and Young in the company’s assurance services practice, which helps clients with financial statement audits, accounting compliance and reporting, financial accounting advisory services, and climate change and sustainability services.

The Spring Commencement ceremony awards master’s degrees to students graduating from the Schools of Business and Engineering, master’s degrees and professional diplomas to students from the School of Education and Health, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees to students from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

In addition to the Spring Commencement, Manhattan College will host its 174th Undergraduate Commencement on Sunday, May 22, and award bachelor’s degrees to students in some 40 major fields of study from its five schools in liberal arts, business, education and health, engineering and science. Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, will deliver the keynote address to the College’s undergraduates.
