Accounting - M.S.

• Admission Requirements

  Applicants to the M.S. Accounting online program: 

  • Must have undergraduate bachelor’s degree (4-year degree or equivalent) from an accredited college or university is required to apply to the M.S. Accounting online program. 
  • Should have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) and must have at least 36 semester hours of business classes (meeting the General Business Content Areas requirement of the Professional Accountancy standards). Introductory Financial Accounting and Introductory Managerial Accounting are also required, which can be taken at Manhattan College online during summer session prior to entering the program. 

  Required Documents

  The following documents are required when submitting an application, in addition to a $75 non-refundable application fee:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript(s)
  • A resume that includes examples of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular achievement, which can be used to assess personal qualities and ability to complete the program.
  • Two letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s intellectual ability, leadership potential and ability to complete the program.
  • Official GMAT or GRE  equivalent score of at least 500 is preferred (waivers may apply).

  • How does the MS Accounting program differ from the BS/MBA Professional Accounting program?

    The MS Accounting program is primarily targeted to non-accounting business students who would like to transition into a career in accounting. The 5-year BS/MBA in Professional Accounting program is aimed at undergraduate accounting majors who are seeking to achieve the 150 credit hours needed to meet the CPA license requirement, develop broad business knowledge with a more analytical focus, and acquire depth in certain accounting disciplines. 

  • What are the advantages of using both asynchronous and synchronous learning for this program?

    This program is aimed at busy professional adults who would like the flexibility of achieving their Master’s degree online, while also have direct, “live” interaction with the professor and student colleagues. This approach allows for learning that can take place at a time of the student’s choosing, while also affording them the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other students in real time. It’s the best of both worlds.

  • Why would students with a general business background be interested in the MS Accounting degree?
    Accounting is a valued skill across all levels of business organizations. Knowledge of financial statements, government regulations, tax, and accounting for expenses and revenues are fundamental to effective business.
