Why Choose an Online Master of Science in Accounting?

Accounting professionals with advanced degrees are in high demand, especially as financial technology continues to develop. Our fully online Master of Science in Accounting program allows flexibility in completing asynchronous content and weekly “live” virtual sessions with our world-class faculty and fellow accounting students. You will be prepared for the Certified Public Accounting exam by the New York State Board for Public Accountancy, which approves our accounting program. Our program also reflects the changes coming in 2024 to the CPA exam providing updated skills in data analytics, critical thinking, and decision-making.

Open to all college graduates with sufficient business classes, this 30-credit, one-year online program prepares you for the CPA exam through our licensure qualifying curriculum. Taken full time, the program consists of 10 courses taken over two semesters and one summer session. The program also may be taken part time.

The O'Malley MS Accounting program is designed to prepare you with the knowledge and skills you’ll need to take your career to the next level and enter the exciting field of professional accounting. The program will deliver the cutting edge skills in auditing, tax, data analytics and forensic accounting you need to prepare you for the CPA exam and jobs for major accounting firms. An MS Accounting degree at Manhattan College prepares you for roles such as financial analyst, corporate treasurer, controller, auditor, or financial consultant.

Faculty don’t simply teach in a classroom or online; students are given hands-on learning opportunities they would need to advance in their chosen field. MS Accounting online candidates may receive funding to support research projects with faculty, prepare journal articles for publication, and submit paper presentations at conferences. 

Internships are available during the summer or each academic semester, and there is the chance to travel globally to places like Dubai (UAE), Paris, Peru, and India to learn about international businesses and corporations. Our online Master of Science accounting students can also compete at the annual Beta Alpha Psi Leadership Conference.

At the same time, students preparing to graduate from Manhattan College with a Bachelor’s in Accounting could also enroll in our online Master’s program while completing their undergraduate degree. 

    This program can be completed in one year, with classes taken full time in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

  • Admission Requirements

    Applicants to the M.S. Accounting online program: 

    • Must have undergraduate bachelor’s degree (4-year degree or equivalent) from an accredited college or university is required to apply to the M.S. Accounting online program. 
    • Should have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) and must have at least 36 semester hours of business classes (meeting the General Business Content Areas requirement of the Professional Accountancy standards). Introductory Financial Accounting and Introductory Managerial Accounting are also required, which can be taken at Manhattan College online during summer session prior to entering the program.

    The following documents are required when submitting an application, in addition to a $75 non-refundable application fee:

    • Application form
    • Official Transcript(s)
    • A resume that includes examples of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular achievement, which can be used to assess personal qualities and ability to complete the program.
    • Two letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s intellectual ability, leadership potential and ability to complete the program.
    • Official GMAT or GRE  equivalent score of at least 500 is preferred (waivers may apply).
