Manhattan College Ranks No. 17 in U.S. News’ America’s Best Colleges Report

U.S. News & World Report recognizes Manhattan College among top schools and as a standout college for veterans.

In the latest U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges 2016 ranking released today, Manhattan College was ranked No. 17 among the best regional universities in the North, a spot above its ranking last year. This is the ninth year in a row that Manhattan has placed in the top 20 out of 138 schools ranked in the category.

For the first time, U.S. News recognized Manhattan College as a top college for veteran students. Certified for the GI Bill and a participant school in the Yellow Ribbon Program, Manhattan College provides many resources for veteran students, including the VALOR (Veterans Academic Learning Opportunities Realized) Club, which sponsors several events each semester.

In addition, the College’s School of Engineering was recognized in the Best in Undergraduate Engineering category. This ranking is based on surveys of engineering deans and senior faculty at undergraduate engineering programs accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). The School of Business also ranked in the Best Undergraduate Business category, which only ranks schools accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).

For the second straight year, Manhattan College achieved high marks in graduation rate performance. According to U.S. News: “If the school’s actual graduation rate for the 2008 entering class is higher than the rate U.S. News predicted for that same class, then the college is enhancing achievement or over-performing.” Manhattan College exceeded its predicted graduation rate for the entering class of 2008, graduating seven percent more students than anticipated.

The college ranking categories are based upon the 2010 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifications. U.S. News has used the Carnegie classification system since the first Best Colleges rankings in 1983, because they are accepted as the basis for classifying schools by most higher education researchers. Manhattan College is categorized as a Regional University because it offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs, but does not offer doctoral degrees.
