Each year, our Voter Engagement Committee works to increase student participation by helping students register to vote, request absentee ballots and find their polling locations. The committee also educates students about elections and candidates, organizes events that encourage civic participation, creates engaging social media content and collaborates with students from different majors, organizations and clubs to involve the entire campus community. Our team meets weekly to develop strategies for reaching these goals. Manhattan University participates in the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE), to learn about the voting habits of our students. While *who* you vote for remains private, we can find out *how many* Manhattan University students are registered and voted. Manhattan University earned Bronze seals for its participation rate in the 2018 and 2022 elections, and a Silver seal for its participation rate in the 2020 election. University students are permitted to register using either their home address or their campus address. Consider where it will be more convenient to vote, where you are more familiar with local political issues and where you believe your vote may have the greatest impact. If you are registered at your parents’ address and then submit a registration form using a Bronx address, your earlier registration will likely be canceled. You are permitted to vote only once. ### Am I Eligible to Vote? To vote, you must: - Be a United States citizen. - Be 18 years old. You may pre-register at age 16 or 17, but you cannot vote until you are 18. - Be a resident of the state and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election. As a resident student, you are considered a Bronx resident. - Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction. - Not have been adjudged mentally incompetent by a court. - Not claim the right to vote elsewhere. There are three ways to vote: 1. **Absentee or mail-in ballot:** If you will be away from home on Election Day but still want to vote using your home address rather than your school or local address, you can request an absentee ballot.
