## E-Verify and Form I-9

Manhattan University is an E-Verify employer.

Federal law requires all U.S. employers to complete [Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification ](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9)for every employee hired. Both the employee and employer must complete this form. Section I of Form I-9 must be completed no later than the first day of employment.

The employee must also present [acceptable documents ](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents)as evidence of identity and employment authorization to the employer within three business days of the first day of employment, for the employer’s completion of Section II of Form I-9. If the position is for less than three days, Section II must be completed no later than the first day of work for pay.

**E-Verify** is an internet-based system administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in partnership with the Social Security Administration. It allows participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of their employees.

E-Verify checks the information provided on an employee’s Form I-9 electronically against records contained in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration databases.
