### About the Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) at Manhattan University advises the Board of Trustees, the President, academic and administrative officers and units on issues including, but not limited to, governance, contracts, compliance, student affairs, research, labor and employment law.

OGC is responsible for managing all legal issues affecting the University and is committed to providing quality and efficient legal services to Manhattan University across three broad categories: counseling/advice, preventive law/compliance, and formal dispute resolution. OGC also oversees Compliance and Title IX.

OGC is further committed to serving the University by administering and maintaining the Universityâ&#128;&#153;s relationships with City, State and Federal elected officials.

Where is the Office of General Counsel located?

The Office of General Counsel is located at 4513 Manhattan College Pkwy, Riverdale, New York 10471 in Miguel Hall, Room 205.

 

Does the Office of General Counsel provide legal advice on personal matters to members of the campus community?

The Office of General Counsel does not provide legal advice on personal matters to members of the campus community.

 

What should you do if you receive a subpoena or court documents?

If you are on the Manhattan campus and someone tries to serve you a subpoena, summons or legal notice that concerns the university, you should direct them to the Office of General Counsel located in Miguel Hall, Room 205.

If the notice comes in the mail or is hand-delivered to you, please send us a copy right away by emailing <ogc@manhattan.edu>. The original, hard copies should be delivered to the Office of General Counsel as soon as possible.

If you receive legal paperwork on behalf of the university, you should let the Office of General Counsel know about it immediately, preferably the same day. These documents often contain important information and deadlines. Please donâ&#128;&#153;t delay in passing them along to us.

 

Do all contracts and agreements need to be reviewed by OGC?

All contracts, whether monetary or not, where the University is a party must be reviewed by the Office of General Counsel (OGC) or its designee before it can be executed on behalf of the University. In order to review, all contracts must be submitted via the [Contract Review Form](/offices/general-counsel/contract-review-form "Contract Review Form").
