Manhattan College today awarded the Joseph J. Gunn ’30 Alumni Medal to Connor Hapward, a student in its O’Malley School of Business.

The Gunn Medal is given to a graduating senior who embodies the College’s Lasallian mission and who has made a significant contribution to the College during his/her undergraduate years. This award is recognized as one of Manhattan College’s highest honors given to an undergraduate student.

A native of West Caldwell, NJ, Hapward excelled both academically and athletically at the College. With a GPA of 3.97 as a management major, he intends to pursue an MBA at Manhattan College. On the athletic front, Hapward’s position as a stellar goalie on the lacrosse field is undeniable. He earned the starting position this season and ranks among the top goalies in NCAA Division1. He is fourth in saves per game and among the Top 15 nationwide in save percentage. However, it is his selfless attitude and focus on his teammates that exemplify Hapward’s spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Hapward was also active in other campus activities having served as a representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a consistent volunteer at food pantries and working with students with special needs, and President of the College’s Management Club. According to Br. Daniel Gardner, FSC, immediate past president of Manhattan College, Hapward is a quiet leader who has concern for all people, particularly the poor. “His quiet humility coupled with his keen intellect and volunteer service makes Connor the ideal recipient for this prestigious award,” said Br. Dan. Echoed Dr. Milo Riverso, President of the College, “Connor depicts the true spirit of Manhattan College – he is academically gifted, a skilled athlete, and, importantly, a humble and giving person. We are delighted that he will remain at the College for his MBA.”
