Manhattan College’s School of Education and Health will offer a four-year bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology beginning in August 2014. The degree trains students in the medical specialty employed to help doctors diagnose and detect pathology and disease processes through X-ray images in hospitals and private physician offices.
Radiologic technologists work in a variety of medical fields, such as general radiology, dental, fluoroscopy, mammography, computed tomography, and interventional and cardiac catheterization imaging. They are responsible for the performance of organ imaging procedures for obtaining diagnostic results.
The new Bachelor of Science in Radiological and Health Sciences (Radiologic Technology) includes a concentration in Health Care Administration. The concentration further expands one’s role in radiological department administration or the option to pursue a graduate degree in hospital, public or business administration.
Students in the radiologic technology program will participate in a 16-credit internship receiving 275 days of hands-on experience in a clinical setting. The department of Radiological and Health Professions has planned affiliations with top hospitals and medical centers in the New York City metropolitan area including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York Presbyterian – Columbia Medical Center, and New York Presbyterian – Cornell Medical Center.
