Manhattan College’s Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education Center Hosts Several Fall Events

Lineup includes book discussions by authors Ruth Boyd Sharone and John Connelly.

Manhattan College’s Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education (HGI) Center will host a series of educational, artistic and interfaith events this fall.Each event is free and open to the public:

  • Thursday, Sept. 12, 4 p.m.: Author, filmmaker and interfaith activist Ruth Broyde Sharone will discuss her book Minefields and Miracles: God and Allah Need to Talk in the O’Malley Library Alumni Room. Highly regarded and respected for her interfaith activities, the book garnered endorsements from more than 30 global leaders of many faiths, including the Dalai Lama.
  • Sunday, Oct. 20, 5 p.m.: In collaboration with the Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations, the HGI Center will welcome John Connelly on Oct. 20 to discuss From Enemy to Brother: The Revolution in Catholic Teaching on the Jews, 1933-1965 in the O’Malley Library Alumni Room. Connelly’s book illuminates one of the most enormous, yet undiscussed, ideological swings in modern history.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 29, 4 p.m.: Broadcast journalist and Emmy nominated television producer Thomas O’Hanlon will present his documentary film Living in the Deafening Silence in Hayden 100. The 30-minute screening will be followed by a question and answer session.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m.: Shaul Bassi, Ph.D., will give the sixth annual Frederick Schweitzer Lecture titled Italy and Kristallnacht in Smith Auditorium. A professor of English language and literature, Bassi’s research, teaching and publications are divided between Shakespeare, postcolonial theory and literature (India and Africa) and Jewish studies.
