Jaspers Reconnect at Reunion Weekend

More than 450 alumni reaffirmed College connections at the 144th Reunion Weekend.

Manhattan College alumni gathered in Riverdale to celebrate the College’s 144th Reunion Weekend from May 31-June 2.

Friday afternoon, returning alumni geared up for the weekend in Jasper’s Tavern at Café 1853 before disbursing to several evening events.

Classes celebrating their 15th-45th anniversaries attended a dinner reception while recent graduates gathered for dancing, drinks and karaoke in Smith Auditorium. The class of 1988 enjoyed a special silver dinner in Dante’s Den in Thomas Hall and marked its 25th anniversary by presenting a $75,000 donation to the College.

To celebrate their golden year, the class of 1963 and prior years set sail on the New York Harbor for a special anniversary cruise complete with dinner, drinks and dancing. Reconvening for Saturday morning brunch, they made Manhattan College history when class chair Gerard Caccappolo presented a class gift of $1 million — the largest 50th anniversary reunion donation to date.

During the course of the weekend, President Brennan O’Donnell also recognized members of the anniversary class with the Brother C. Thomas Jubilarian medals. The commemorative awards are named for Brother Cantiduius Thomas, former president, who supervised the College’s move from 131st Street in Manhattan to its present location in Riverdale.

More than 450 alumni participated in Saturday’s schedule, which included a buffet breakfast, estate planning seminar, a barbecue lunch on the Memorial Hall courtyard, a wine tasting, as well as a performing arts showcase highlighting the College’s most talented students and alumni.

After a late night of dessert and dancing, visiting Jaspers shared a Sunday brunch before saying their goodbyes.
