John Runowicz

John Michael Runowicz is an actor, musician and scholar. Under the name John Michael Hersey, his acting credits include An Enemy of the People, All My Sons, Deathtrap, and The Weir with the Iona University Theater Ensemble, The Whites and Betty and the Belrays at Theater for the New City; and Not about Nightingales at La Mama. He has released nineteen albums of his music including the 2024 album, Footprints. For many years he was the musical director, guitarist and second tenor for the doo-wop group Speedo and the Cadillacs. In 2010, UMass Press published his book, Forever Doo-wop: Race, Nostalgia, and Vocal Harmony, based on his doctoral research. He also serves as Manager of Creative Arts at The Fortune Society, a non-profit that provides services for people involved with the criminal justice system.
