Bart Horn

Associate Professor, Physics

I have taught at Manhattan University since 2017 and currently serve as the Assistant Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics.  I completed my Ph.D. in theoretical physics at Stanford University, and I was subsequently a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of California at San Diego.

My research interests are in high energy theoretical physics and early universe cosmology, with current work focusing on large scale structure in the Universe and asymptotic symmetries of spacetime.  In 2022 I received an NSF grant to develop simulations of the growth of large scale structure together with students at Manhattan University.  Other past research topics include inflation and moduli fields, uplifting AdS/CFT dualities to cosmological spacetimes, applications of string theory to vortex lines in superfluids, and the stability and ultimate fate of bouncing universes.

I am passionate about science education, and in 2024-25 I am participating in the NSF Teaching and Learning Ambassadors program in the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences, applying tested practices from STEM education to foster student success and create an effective and inclusive learning environment.

In lighter moments I can also be found distance running in Van Cortlandt Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
