    Dr Pinto's research group is centered in the preparation of nanomaterials using Green Chemistry techniques. These materials are aimed to be applied to environmentally or industrially relevant situations. For instance, the development of adsorbents for the removal of toxic dyes and pharmaceutical molecules from simulated wastewater using physical principles like adsorption and photocatalysis. Other example is the development of adsorbents for desulfurization of simulated fuels by adsorption and photocatalysis.

    Another research filed in Dr Pinto's group is interested on development of teaching materials to provide more exposure to materials chemistry content in Chemistry undergraduate courses, which the results have been presented as peer-review articles in the Journal of Chemical Education.

    His group also maintains close collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally, with groups from Canada and Brazil.
