English as a Second Language (ESL)/Leadership and Photography

Do you have a knack for developing your photography, digital editing, and promotional skill set? Are you interested in taking field trips throughout the stunning New York City, but don’t know much about communicating in English? Would you like to understand how the Federal Reserve Bank of New York works? Understand how some neighborhoods in NYC are clean and fun as a consequence of BIDs and meet with NYC leaders that make NYC a great City?

You have found the perfect course to enhance those skills and your English talents all while enjoying spectacular experiences all around New York City. Manhattan College’s English Language/Leadership and Photography will help you to combine English modalities, improve your leadership skills and photography abilities to get your digital portfolio to be seen throughout the world. Our three-week intensive program contains sessions in English as a second language, exposure to finance, business improvement districts (BID), NYC leaders and photography capture sessions, as well as field trips to some of New York’s most eye catching views that the Big Apple has to offer. Start with a picture, leave with a thousand words.

English as a Second Language

Lessons are designed to teach students how to use English to their fullest advantage while developing their leadership and photographic skills. Students will expand their oral and writing communication, and listening skills. All of these English skills will be used to help enhance all student’s academic and professional paths.

Leadership and Photography Progress

Throughout the English courses, students will attend sessions at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and learn how the Fed impacts the monetary policy. Students will meet with nonprofit leaders and visit Business Improvement Districts to learn best practices on how some neighborhoods have improved over the years. Students will take photos all around various locations in the Big Apple in order to digitally improve them later on in our computer labs. With a vast amount of photos in every student’s camera (students must bring their own cameras or use their phone’s camera), they will begin to learn how to digitally edit their photos utilizing software to fit their creative needs. With photo and editing skills already in the works, students will use the last week to create a digital portfolio that they will keep with them throughout their lives.
