About Us

Our expert faculty are the driving force of this department. They are published scholars in their respective fields, particularly in the histories of the United States, Eastern and Western Europe, Japan and East Asia, and Latin America. Outside of the classroom, you’ll get to know your professors on a deeper level. Every semester, the department offers opportunities to learn through social gatherings, brown bag lunch discussions, lectures series and faculty-led trips through our favorite piece of history: New York City.

Research and hands-on learning are also important parts your experience as a history major. Many students have the chance to work one-on-one with faculty members, attend conferences and have their work published all before graduating. Others opt to intern at a business, nonprofit, media outlet or educational organization in the city.

Meet our Students

Transfer student Aleysha Taveras combined her history and education majors by landing a job as a park ranger on Governors Island, where she gives tours and participates in reenactments with historical weapons.

Our Programs

The History Department is unique in that it provides students with a breadth of historical subjects, while still retaining a personalized and intimate classroom setting. The History Department offers major and minor programs. Additionally, the department supports students from the School of Education & Health who choose to do a concentration in history within their education major.
