 ## Japan

Spend part of your summer in Japan exploring major tourism sites, including Shinto and Buddhist religious landmarks that have stood for more than 300 years.

As students visit temples, shrines and culturally significant landscapes, they examine how these sites are presented in contemporary Japan through the lenses of historical memory, religious practice, and national and local identity.

Course readings situate these experiences within broader discussions of heritage tourism, helping students understand how tradition is preserved, interpreted and sometimes reimagined for visitors. Through this immersive study, students gain insight into the complex relationship between tourism, cultural heritage and modern Japanese society.
