# Note Takers, Readers & Scribes

## Note Takers, Readers & Scribes

Students must request a reader, scribe and/or note-taker at the beginning of each semester through AIM. If it is not a listed eligibility, please email <src@manhattan.edu>. Students are responsible for monitoring the quality of the work presented by readers, scribes and note-takers, and should immediately contact the SRC if problems arise.

### Note-takers

- If a note-taker is hired by the SRC, he or she will receive $75 per course/per semester.
- Note-takers will be responsible for locating a back-up note-taker in the event they are not able to attend class, and will have their contracts terminated upon the fourth absence from class.
- Note-takers will be responsible for uploading notes weekly into AIM. Notes must be submitted as one file weekly. We recommend using the **Adobe Scan App** & **Acrobat**. They are free to install and use on both iPhone and Android devices.
- Note-takers' notes for the first three classes may be reviewed by the professor, and if the notes do not meet the professor's standards, the note-taker’s contract will be terminated.
- Note-takers must possess proficiency in written language skills that may include:
    - grades in collegiate English coursework.
    - a recommendation from a faculty member.
    - writing sample as prescribed by the SRC.
    - completion of all prerequisite coursework necessary for the class.
    - legible handwriting as determined by the SRC.
    - a working telephone number (to be filed with the SRC).
- All note-takers must have a [W-9](http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf) completed and on file with the SRC.

### Readers and Scribes

Readers and scribes (R&S) will be paid the standard student-aide hourly rate (may change annually) as determined by Manhattan University.

- R&S are responsible for contacting the SRC no later than 24 hours prior to an appointment if they are unable to attend a session, and will have their contract terminated upon the third canceled appointment.
- R&S' first three assignments/tests will be reviewed by the professor, and if the work does not meet the professor's standards, the R&S contract will be terminated.
- Scribes must possess proficiency in language skills that may include:
    - grades in collegiate English coursework.
    - a recommendation from a faculty member.
    - writing sample as prescribed by the SRC.
    - completion of all prerequisite coursework necessary for the class.
    - legible handwriting as determined by the SRC.
    - a working telephone number (to be filed with the SRC).
- Readers must possess the same criteria listed above except:
    - replace written/legible handwriting, with oral reading proficiency.
