## What Sets Us Apart

The Cybersecurity major at Manhattan University pairs a rigorous computer science core with hands-on security practice, from cryptography built up from its mathematical foundations to live exercises in our dedicated security lab. As artificial intelligence reshapes both defense tools and the nature of the threat, our curriculum evolves with the field, with electives spanning AI, blockchain, and emerging security topics. Grounded in ethics, privacy, and cyberlaw, the program prepares graduates who can protect the systems society relies on and lead responsibly in an AI-driven world.

$124,910 Median Salary

Information security analysts earn a median salary of $124,910, with 29% projected job growth through 2034, much faster than average, and roughly 16,000 openings each year (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Security for the Age of AI

AI gives attackers and defenders powerful new tools. Coursework and electives in AI, machine learning, and emerging security topics prepare you for the threats that come next, not just the ones we know today.

Built From the Foundations Up

You won't just use security tools, you'll understand them. Learn how cryptographic protocols work by building them from their mathematical foundations, then apply that knowledge to analyze real systems.

Learn to Think Like an Attacker

In the dedicated Cybersecurity Lab, you'll explore how attackers exploit vulnerabilities in web applications and networks, and how to defend against those threats in practical, hands-on scenarios.

Ethics, Privacy, and Cyberlaw

A required course in Cybersecurity Policy, Privacy, and Ethics grounds your technical skills in the legal, ethical, and societal questions that define the field, in keeping with our Lasallian mission.

Small Classes, Close Mentorship

Learn directly from faculty in small classes, with personalized instruction and guidance from your first programming course through your senior capstone.

The Manhattan Advantage

## Why Cybersecurity at Manhattan University?

Cybersecurity at Manhattan University is built on the conviction that the best security professionals understand systems from the ground up. You'll begin with core programming and a strong mathematical foundation, then apply them to real problems in cryptography, web security, network security, blockchain, and cyberlaw. The curriculum deliberately combines theory and practice: you'll learn how cryptographic protocols work by building them from their mathematical foundations, then use that knowledge to analyze and defend real systems in the security lab.

You'll also learn to see security the way the field demands, as more than a technical problem. Coursework in digital privacy, policy, and cyberlaw examines how technical decisions affect individuals, businesses, and society, a perspective that matters more than ever as organizations weigh the promise and the risks of artificial intelligence. Through team projects and hands-on lab assignments, you'll work the way professionals do: collaboratively, under realistic conditions, and communicating clearly.

Everything comes together in a one-semester senior capstone. Working in a small team, you'll design, build, and evaluate a complete cybersecurity solution for a real-world problem or client scenario, practicing the project planning, documentation, and client-facing communication that employers expect from cybersecurity professionals. Graduates leave ready for careers in secure software development, penetration testing, incident response, digital forensics, and security engineering, or for graduate study and industry certifications.

## Why Study in New York City

New York City is one of the world's most demanding cybersecurity markets, home to organizations across finance, health care, technology, media, and government that defend some of the most targeted systems anywhere, and that need security talent even more urgently as they race to adopt AI. Studying minutes from this ecosystem means access that few programs can match: internships with NYC employers, capstone projects grounded in real industry problems, and faculty networks that reach across the city's security and technology sectors. Manhattan University students graduate with the technical skills, professional connections, and practical experience needed to compete where the stakes are highest.

## Cybersecurity: From Code to Defense

A cybersecurity education at Manhattan University builds mastery across the full arc of the field, from the mathematical foundations of cryptography to the front-line work of detecting and answering attacks. Every course strengthens one of six core competencies, developed through hands-on labs, team projects, and realistic scenarios rather than lecture alone. Together they produce graduates who can secure systems end to end, and keep securing them as artificial intelligence redraws the threat landscape.

Cryptography

Understand the mathematics that keeps data secret. Build encryption, authentication, and key exchange protocols from first principles, then apply them to secure the digital communications, transactions, and identities that modern systems depend on.

Network & Systems Security

Learn how data moves and where it's exposed. Configure, analyze, and harden networks, operating systems, and infrastructure against intrusion, building the defensive depth that keeps organizations up and running even when attackers come knocking.

Threat Detection & Defense

Practice both sides of security in realistic scenarios. Identify threats, probe systems for weaknesses the way attackers do, and respond to incidents with the tools and methodologies used every day by professional security teams.

Secure Software Development

Write code that stands up to attack. Apply secure design principles, engineering practices, and testing strategies across the software lifecycle to build applications that protect users and data by design, rather than as an afterthought.

Digital Forensics & Incident Response

When breaches happen, someone has to answer what, how, and who. Learn to investigate compromised systems, preserve and analyze digital evidence, and help organizations recover, adapt, and come back stronger after an attack.

AI and Emerging Threats

Study security where it's headed, not just where it's been. Explore how AI, machine learning, and blockchain change both attack and defense, and evaluate intelligent systems for the new vulnerabilities they themselves introduce.
