What Set's Us Apart

what-sets

Six Focused Concentrations

Specialize in advertising, integrated marketing communications, journalism, media production, public relations, or sports media production. You build a focused skill set while keeping the freedom to explore the wider field.

Hands-On Production Experience

You work with real equipment on real projects well before graduation. Small classes mean you fill every role, from writing and editing to producing, anchoring, and camerawork.

Faculty From the Industry

Your professors are current and former media professionals, including seasoned advertisers, reporters, and journalists. They bring real newsrooms and agencies into the classroom, and your professional network starts there.

A Complementary Minor

Every major pairs communication with a minor outside the field, such as government, economics, sociology, or urban studies. You graduate ready to create media about something, not just to produce it.

Ethics at the Core

Coursework trains you to be an ethical producer and consumer of media in an industry where the lines can blur. You learn to apply ethical principles and a lens of equity to everything you create.

A Liberal Arts Foundation

Communication is both a liberal arts discipline rooted in persuasive speaking and writing and a pre-professional path into mass media. You leave with the critical thinking and practical skills employers demand.

The Manhattan University Difference

What Sets Us Apart

The Communication major at Manhattan University prepares you to create media that informs, persuades, and connects. Rooted in persuasive writing and speaking and built around hands-on production, the program lets you specialize in one of six concentrations while learning from faculty who work in the field, all just minutes from the center of the media industry.

I learned pretty much everything I know about journalism working at The Quad. I wrote news and sports stories and mostly music and film reviews and cultural type of pieces. I honed my craft later, but it was really, really rewarding. "

Why Study in New York City

New York City is the news and media capital of the country, home to the headquarters of nearly every major media company. Studying just a 30-minute subway ride from midtown Manhattan, Communication majors are steps from the newsrooms, studios, agencies, and publications that set the national conversation.

That proximity turns into opportunity. Our students land internships across the city's top media companies, and many of those internships become full-time jobs. You graduate with real experience, professional contacts, and a portfolio built in the capital of American media.

## Learn From Leaders in the Field

Digital Media Art students learn directly from practicing artists, designers, and scholars who are active at the forefront of the discipline. Program Director Dr. Daniel Savoy was awarded the Kress Digital Humanities Fellowship at Villa I Tatti, Harvard University's center for Italian Renaissance studies in Florence, and his digital reconstruction work was featured in the 2025 Milan Triennale exhibition, seen by more than one million visitors. Faculty like Dr. Savoy bring that same energy and expertise into the studio, mentoring students one-on-one as they develop their craft.
