## Phi Alpha Theta

**National honor society for history**

[Phi Alpha Theta](http://phialphatheta.org/) is an honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has more than 350,000 members from over 800 chapters nationwide. Phi Alpha Theta:

- recognizes and encourages excellence in history
- awards prizes for student essays and assistance for graduate school programs
- hosts annual regional and national conferences to provide an opportunity for students and faculty to present papers, describe their research and discuss career prospects

Manhattan University chartered its chapter, Delta Theta in 1951.

### Eligibility

To qualify for membership, undergraduates must have:

- completed 12 credits of history with a minimum 3.2 GPA  
    an overall cumulative GPA that places them in the top one-third of their class
