# Tracks | Civil Engineering

Department of Civil Engineering

# Civil Engineering Areas of Study

Civil engineering spans the systems that hold up modern life, from the buildings and bridges we cross to the soil beneath them and the projects that bring them together. At Manhattan University, you can specialize at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, learning across the disciplines in the city that has tested civil engineers for more than a century.

Graduate Study

## [Civil Engineering M.S. Tracks](/academics/programs/civil-engineering-ms)

Choose one of three specialized tracks and customize your master's around the work you want to do.

Structural Engineering

The analysis, design and construction of buildings, bridges, ships, aircraft, and other vehicles of flight.

Geotechnical Engineering

The study and behavior of various soils to find ways of properly supporting all structures on the Earth and other planets.

Construction Management

The overall planning, coordination, and control of a construction project from beginning to completion.

Undergraduate Study

## [Civil Engineering B.S. Disciplines](/node/3572)

After a common first-year engineering foundation, you specialize across six disciplines in your junior and senior years.

Structural Engineering

The analysis, design and construction of buildings, bridges, ships, aircraft and structures of all types.

Environmental Engineering

The study of how different systems affect the environment and the design of sustainable systems to protect people and the planet.

Construction Management

The planning, execution, and oversight of infrastructure construction, ensuring economy, efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Geotechnical Engineering

The study of the behavior of soils and rocks to design and construct structures above and below the ground.

Transportation Engineering

The planning, design, and construction of highways, airports, railways, ports, and other transportation systems.

Water Resources Engineering

The study of water supply sources and the design of sustainable improvements to water resources infrastructure.
