Dr. Poyin Auyeung served as an assistant professor of art history in the Visual & Performing Arts department from 2009 until her death in May 2013. During her four years at Manhattan College, her enthusiasm and dedication to her students and to the department never wavered. Auyeung will always be remembered for her laughter, collegial spirit and academic excellence in art history. She is one of the main reasons the college now enjoys a major in art history, attracting students from across the country and around the world to study art and architecture in New York City.
Auyeung continually encouraged her students to go beyond the classroom—to visit museums and art galleries and to embark on a research trip abroad. She was aware of the limited financial means of many of our students; yet she encouraged them to fuel their passion and to find ways to earn grants and scholarships for travel. To honor the memory of Dr. Auyeung and to greatly expand access for students to the field of art history, the Visual & Performing Arts department has established a memorial scholarship fund to assist art history majors and minors in research, study abroad and conference travel.
