Four years can pass by quickly here at Manhattan College, so be sure to make the most of your college experience by taking advantage of all the opportunities available on campus and in the nearby community.
It is a Manhattan College tradition for seniors to walk down the senior walkway, located in the center of the Quadrangle, in the heart of the campus. This rite of passage distinguishes those who have put blood, sweat, and tears into their work for the past three years and have now gained senior status. So walk down that path when everyone’s around –- you’ve earned it. Just do it.
Whether you are a devout fan or could care less about athletics, you would not be a Jasper if you didn’t attend at least one basketball game in Draddy Gym. The Jasper Jungle is a symbol of our school’s pride, and cheering from this section demonstrates unity in rooting for our athletes. Go Jaspers!
Cardinal Hayes Library is the original library of Manhattan College, which is now connected to the renovated O’Malley Library. The five-story addition to this historic building has rooms, stairwells and books that you likely never have explored. Some say it’s haunted. Some say it’s the quietest part of our campus, ideal for getting work done. Either way, it’s a must-see.
We are lucky enough to have Van Cortlandt Park on our doorstep. It’s one of the most renowned parks in the Northeast, filled with fields, activities, trails and wildlife. This spring, venture into the park one afternoon and experience the beauty of nature that we are lucky enough to have in our backyard. If you’ve already gone to Van Cortlandt, why not explore the Bronx Zoo or the New York Botanical Garden? Both are 10 minutes away and two Bronx landmarks you won’t want to miss!
College is the best time to experience the world, crossing borders and immersing yourself in cultures around the globe. Whether you study abroad or volunteer for a L.O.V.E. service trip, Manhattan College has the resources that can send you virtually anywhere you want to go. So do some traveling before it’s time for you to enter the real world.
Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate what’s around until it’s gone. Throughout the year, Manhattan College hosts a ton of interesting lectures, panels and events that you may never have the opportunity to attend once you graduate. Take a look at the upcoming events calendar and take advantage of these enlightening opportunities while you still can.
There are a few places that Jaspers need to go to before they graduate, just to say they have. Fenwicks Bar & Grill, Riverdale City Grill and An Beal Bocht are popular hangouts for Jaspers. So raise your glass and become a part of the Jasper traditions in Riverdale.
We have been blessed here at MC by being surrounded with great pizza. Eat them all before you graduate! Broadway Joe’s Pizza, Goodfellas Pizzeria, Salvatore’s of Soho and Generico’s Pizza are all within walking distance of the campus. Buon appetito!
Jasper Deli, located on 238th Street between Waldo and Greystone avenues, is the 24-hour deli that Jaspers love for lunch or a midnight snack. Try one of their famous sandwiches or chow down on chicken fingers, French fries or mozzarella sticks. But don’t worry, you’ll burn a few calories walking up the hill from campus to get there.
A favorite for the seniors to get together on weekends, Piper’s Kilt, located on the corner of 231st Street and Albany Crescent. They offer a wonderful brunch special every Saturday and Sunday from noon till 3 p.m. For $18, you can eat the best burger or omelet in Riverdale while enjoying unlimited brews, mimosas and bloody marys. Whether you’re watching the big game or just catching up with friends, this is a great way to bond with your fellow Jaspers before graduation day.
