Faculty and Student Accomplishments
Katherine Bowen, a junior majoring in physical education, was one of only five students selected in the state of New York to run for president elect of Future Professionals for the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance (NYSAHPERD).
Shawn Ladda, Ph.D., professor of physical education and human performance and chair of the department, was honored at the same conference with the NYSAHPERD Professional of the Year Award. The School of Education and Health also hosted 20 principals from the Chaoyang District in Beijing, China, the week of Dec. 10 for a week of lectures and sessions on the American primary education system. The weeklong event was arranged by the America and China International Foundation and coordinated by William J. Merriman, Ph.D., dean of the School of Education and Health, and Karen Nicholson, Ph.D., associate professor of education. Elizabeth Kosky, Ph.D., professor of education, Ladda, Nicholson, Br. Augustine Nicoletti, FSC, associate professor of education, Lisa Anne Rizopoulos, associate professor of education, Lisa Toscano ’79, associate professor of physical education and human performance, Gloria Wolpert, Ed.D., associate professor of education, and Daniel Russo ’12, a graduate assistant, led the lectures and sessions. The principals also had the opportunity to visit and observe at two New York City Department of Education public schools, P.S. 7 and P.S. 81.
