Fair Trade Speaker to Present at Manhattan College Sept. 15

Señor Pedro Ascencio, a farmer and marketing manager at Las Colinas, a small farmer coffee co-operative in El Salvador, will lead a discussion on fair trade coffee at Manhattan College on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 p.m.

Señor Pedro Ascencio, a farmer and marketing manager at Las Colinas, a small farmer coffee co-operative in El Salvador, will lead a discussion on fair trade coffee at Manhattan College on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 p.m. The event, co-sponsored by Equal Exchange and Catholic Relief Services, is part of a Northeast tour to inform and educate others on fair trade coffee.

The event will be held in the Alumni Room of O’Malley Library in Spanish with translation and the presentation is open to the public.
 
Ascencio will begin his trip attending the Fair Trade Futures Conference in Boston and visit colleges, parishes and church offices to speak about the lives of the farmers at Las Colinas and their compelling history of organizing and nurturing the co-operative, including receiving organic certification and a reusable water system for coffee processing and irrigation.
